About Cornerstone

Cornerstone’s Mission

Founded in 1983, Cornerstone’s mission is to create communities where individuals and families are safe and children thrive. Cornerstone is a nonprofit agency that serves adults and children who have been impacted by domestic violence, sexual violence, human trafficking or general crime. Their ultimate belief is that safe and stable futures are possible when we coordinate an effective crisis response, implement trauma-informed support services, mitigate the impact of violence on children and youth, and confront the roots of violence.

Our Volunteer Experience

Our GOP employees were thrilled to have the opportunity to help Cornerstone with setting up their annual Holiday Shop at their Bloomington location. Every year for the holidays, Cornerstone hosts the event for all of the families that they serve. Stocked with gifts ranging from clothes, toys, crock pots and pans, gift cards, board games, books, and so much more, the Holiday Shop gives kids from abusive homes the opportunity to shop for gifts for their parents and siblings. They get to experience the joy of giving by picking out and wrapping presents for their family members.

The community has been gracious with supplying Cornerstone with the gifts that are set out at the Holiday Shop. We were overwhelmed to see just how much support they receive for this event and could only imagine the joy on the children’s faces when they walked into each room to shop for their loved ones.

Our team had a great time helping out in many different ways. Some lent a hand by vacuuming in and wiping down the tables and chairs, others organized each of the rooms by making sure there was a variety of gifts for the children to choose from, and many helped by setting up wrapping stations and the main event room to make sure that everything looked like it was straight out of a winter wonderland.A photo of the baby clothing donations. We were all very touched to learn about how Cornerstone is helping those that have been affected by violence and abuse. They truly care about the families that they support and are continuing to provide services to those who need it through their hotline, therapy, support groups, crime services, events and so much more.

It was an absolute pleasure to be able to spend our mornings learning about Cornerstone and helping as much as we could. Many of us are already looking for additional ways to get involved to continue helping this great nonprofit agency.

If you are interested in donating or volunteering, Cornerstone has a variety of ways for you to get involved.
